1. Wait for the government to do something, like construct a reservoir or levee, or
2. Take actions on your own to reduce your risk of flood damage.
Developed by the ASFPM Nonstructural Flood Proofing Committee, this resource is for homeowners and business owners who want to reduce their exposure to flood damage (and potentially lower flood insurance premiums). Even if a government agency is planning to construct a reservoir or other flood control project, it may take years before it is constructed and operational. Meanwhile, you may flood again.
